Some of the few memories I have of happy days are of my uncles coming over and watching them play cards or dominoes with my parents. They would give us kids riddles to solve & keep us busy, when we couldn't figure them out it was our homework for the next day. We would go to bed and lay there trying to figure out the answer till we would fall asleep, the next day we were anxious to get up to figure out the answer....Maybe thats why I love brain busters and things that challenge me. Growing up we never had enough money to take family vacations. My mother always would color with us make drawings for us or play LOTERIA (Mexican Bingo) with us and use beans to mark the pictures. LOL
Milton and I want those kind of memories for our kids, we want them to one day do the same with their family. We look forward to the day they come home with their spouses and kids and we remember the good old times and make new memories for the generation to come.
Every time we go to Goodwill or The Salvation Army we look for board games or games we can play as a family. There are a few games we have paid full price for, just because we don't want to wait for them to come on sale or really can't wait to play them. Some games are cheesy and we won't play them again, others are a blast and we play them non stop, till we get to the point where we don't want to play them for a while, but in the end it's all about the memorable times we spend together.
It's not about the amount of money you spend or the places you go to. Its about "THAT ONE TIME WE....." Don't get me wrong I'm all about going away to a nice cruise or on a road trip and even to a nice weekend in a cabin, we've done it all but at the end what they remember is the time and who was there not how much money we spent or how far we went.
We are a loud, crazy, oh so super competitive bunch and not everyone is a winner in this house. You better not quit halfway thought or you will be the target of the night, but one day you will be saying " REMEMBER WHEN ?"
